Peter has worked exclusively in the field of commercial real estate for almost 23 years. During this period of time, he has completed over 385 transactions representing 3.1M square feet of space and has been involved with the development, acquisition, or disposition of over 1.5M square feet of space. He has a solid background in brokerage, property management, construction management, development, and acquisition. Peter currently works in the areas of industrial, office, retail, land, and investment.
Peter earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN in 1992, and prior to working in the field of commercial real estate, worked in sales and technical sales with 2 local companies. He began his commercial real estate career with Steiner Development, Inc. in 1996 as Property Manager for a portfolio of 1.5M square feet with over 100 tenants. In 1999, Peter became a Sales Associate responsible for business development and for marketing and leasing a 2.5M square foot real estate portfolio. Then in early 2005, he became Director – Business Development prior to leaving and starting his own venture, Summerhill Commercial Real Estate, LLC in March of 2006.
Peter attained the designation of CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) in August 2008. Peter is also a member of MNCAR, MAAR, & NAIOP. Peter served as a board member of MNCAR from early 2014 through 2018. On January 2, 2018, Summerhill Commercial acquired Steiner Development & Steiner Commercial Realty. Summerhill now consists of 1 Principal/Broker, 3 Broker/Agents, 2 Property Manager/Agents, 1 Accounting Professional, 2 Property Accountants, and 1 Property Maintenance Technician. Summerhill specializes in the industrial, office, and retail sectors of commercial real estate, among others, throughout the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN. In his off time, Peter enjoys spending time with his family, reading, travel, current events, hiking, fitness, and running. He completed a half marathon in 2012 (Lola’s Lakehouse Half Marathon in Waconia), the 20 mile Bear Water Run in White Bear Lake in 2012, and the Twin Cities Marathon in 2013.

Joe Smith joined Steiner Development as a Leasing Associate in 1987 and has spent his entire commercial real estate career with Steiner. He is responsible for the lease up and tenant retention of an industrial and commercial real estate portfolio of approximately 1.5 million square feet throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Since 1987, he as built an industry respected background by leasing Steiner managed properties, providing Tenant Representation and Sales Brokerage services, achieving lease up of numerous new developments and working directly with his team at Summerhill in the completion of new tenant improvements. Mr. Smith is a seasoned professional that conducts business with high integrity and ethics while delivering excellent market knowledge and expertise to those he serves, whether on the landlord or tenant side of the table. Mr. Smith is the 2001 Past-President of the Minnesota Commercial Association of Realtors (MNCAR), and is an active member of that organization. Joe is also a member of NAIOP (National Association of Industrial and Office Properties), and serves on their Community Enhancement Committee. Steiner and Smith were awarded the 2009 MNCAR Industrial Transaction of the Year Award.
Matt serves as the Director of Finance for Summerhill Commercial, LLC and its related subsidiaries. He is responsible for the corporate accounting department and managing the financial reporting. He guides financial decisions by establishing, analyzing and monitoring organizational policies and procedures. Matt protects company assets by enforcing, developing and auditing internal controls. He maintains company-wide and project specific financial conditions by conducting audits and reviewing financials for JV’s, partnerships and 3rd party affiliations.
Prior to joining Summerhill, Matt worked for Alatus, CBRE, Madison Marquette and Carlson Real Estate and has over 11 years of Commercial, Retail and Industrial Real Estate management and finance experience. In previous roles he led projects, portfolios and departments; while managing real estate endeavors for several fortune 500 clients. He has worked in numerous major markets in the US over the years; managing ownership financials on properties such as the 10 St. James & 75 Arlington buildings in Boston, the Mount Pleasant Towne Centre in South Carolina, the Civic Center Plaza & College building in San Diego to the Crown Building in NYC.
Matt studied Accounting and Economics at the University of Minnesota. He has over 15 years’ experience in corporate Accounting and Finance in both publicly traded and private companies. He has a passion for IT and has been involved with several software / hardware upgrades and implementations over the years in multiple companies. He has experience writing training material and coaching employees on Microsoft products with an emphasis in Excel.
Andy Richards is a highly motivated, honest, hardworking and passionate broker for the Summerhill Commercial Real Estate brokerage team. Specializing in industrial and office properties in the southwest & northwest markets, Andy’s clients consist of local entrepreneurs and owners in the marketplace. Andy’s business model is to focus diligently & work hard on all deals, placing emphasis on the quality of his service and making sure he is doing what is right for his client’s needs. Andy earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in Entrepreneurship. Before joining Summerhill, Andy was a real estate broker with a well-respected commercial real estate firm here in the Twin Cities for several years. His duties consisted of market analysis, cold calling, showings, lease/sale negotiations & identifying new businesses and cultivating prospective tenants. Andy is a member of the Minnesota Commercial Association of Realtors (MNCAR), the National Association of Realtors (NAR), National Association of Industrial & Office Properties (NAIOP) & Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA). Also, he is currently working on his Certified Commercial Investment Members (CCIM) designation.
Property Manager- Summerhill Commercial Real Estate, LLC, As Senior Property Manager, Patrick effectively interacts with owners, tenants, and vendors in ensuring Summerhill Commercial’s properties are well-maintained and that each tenant is actively supported. Patrick is responsible for a portfolio of retail, office, and industrial properties totalling over 1,000,000 square feet throughout the metro. Patrick has experience managing both residential and commercial properties and has over two decades of experience managing a commercial portfolio for Summerhill Commercial. Patrick joined Steiner Development in 2003, and then Summerhill Commercial Real Estate, LLC in 2018 when Summerhill purchased Steiner, and has been in the property management field since 1999. An exceptional team player, Patrick’s attention to detail and creative problem-solving make him an invaluable asset to the Summerhill team. Patrick and his wife Stephanie enjoy rediscovering life through the eyes of their two children, and taking advantage of the ample experiences the Twin Cities offer. Patrick also enjoys golfing in his free time.
Theodore began his career in commercial real estate when he first worked at Summerhill in 2008. He spent 3 years working at Summerhill Commercial, learning the in’s and out’s of property management, tenant representation, and construction.
While this time spent working in commercial real estate served as an incredibly important and formative professional experience, he took a break to pursue his passions in the hospitality industry. During this time Theodore rose the ranks in kitchens throughout Minneapolis, eventually opening his own restaurant in the fall of 2018. Once the restaurant was off the ground he took the skills he had honed during his hospitality career and returned to commercial real estate as a more well-rounded and well-equipped manager. This pivot back to real estate also meant being able to spend more quality time with his wife, 2 ½ year old son and soon-to-be-born daughter.
Theodore returned to Summerhill Commercial in the spring of 2019 as one of two property managers, managing a portfolio of 1 million square feet throughout the metro area. He is dedicated to representing the landlord’s best interests while also forging long-lasting relationships with every tenant.
Lacy joined Summerhill Commercial Real Estate, LLC in October of 2018. As a Property Management Accountant, Lacy is responsible for aspects of daily accounting and monthly reporting functions as well as administrative support. Lacy comes with 6 years of property management accounting experience and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Metropolitan State University.
Nick Houwman joined Summerhill Commercial Real Estate, LLC in June of 2014. Nick has over (10) years of experience in architecture bringing a unique set of skills to Summerhill. His passion for drafting, design, and construction uniquely qualify him to assess his client’s needs and deliver results. Nick earned his real estate license in 2013 and is a member of the Minnesota Commercial Association of Realtors (MNCAR). Nick is a 2002 graduate of St. Anthony Village High School and a 2004 graduate of Dunwoody Institute of Technology. Nick is a people person and has a passion for helping clients with their commercial real estate needs. Nick is a go getter and excited to work on tenant and buyer representative and seller and owner representative opportunities in the areas of industrial, retail, and office commercial real estate. In his spare time, Nick fixes and rents his own property, and enjoys camping, hunting, fishing, and just about everything outdoors.
Jean joined Summerhill in the summer of 2019 in a position of administration, accounts payable and marketing.
Previously, Jean worked for 20 years in commercial real estate development and property management serving as an Assistant to the Partners with responsibilities for concept and design development, marketing, tenant liaison and project management. She lead a team in the development of Thirty Bales Restaurant in Hopkins and the redesign of Rivers Restaurant in Chicago.
