Summerhill is a 3rd party service provider and we work with both owners and users of commercial real estate. Our core competencies are property management, brokerage, and tenant improvements. We currently manage 47 properties totaling 2,152,291 square feet in the Twin Cities, and, on the brokerage side, we provide both Landlord and Seller representation services, as well as Tenant and Buyer representation services, both for the properties we manage, and as a stand alone service to our clients. Summerhill also provides tenant improvements services for its clients on an as needed basis as a value add service.
Currently headquartered in Eden Prairie, MN, Summerhill was originally founded in 1983 as Steiner Development, Inc. (SDI), but with a history going back to 1946 with the founding of Steiner & Koppelman, which started as a residential builder and developer, but which successfully expanded into commercial real estate development and acquisition in the 1970s. Summerhill Commercial Real Estate, LLC, was formed in 2006 as a commercial real estate services provider by a long time employee of SDI, and Summerhill later purchased, and merged with, SDI, to form the current company, Summerhill Commercial Real Estate, LLC. Therefore, Summerhill represents the merger of 2 well established real estate companies: Summerhill Commercial Real Estate, LLC and Steiner Development, Inc.
Summerhill made the decision to clear up any brand confusion in the marketplace by combining the combined 2 entities into 1 under the Summerhill name, and differentiate itself from a now unrelated entity, Steiner Construction Services, Inc. (a former sister company to SDI) and to break away from the perceived owner/developer role of SDI, and move over to its actual role of a 3rd party services provider to independent owners and operators of commercial real estate.
With a long record of experience in commercial real estate in both up, and down, commercial real estate cycles, we bring experience, value and insight for our clients to each transaction and assignment. Summerhill Commercial always works hard to bring about a positive result for every project and accomplish this goal ethically, creatively, innovatively, and with integrity.
1946 - Steiner & Koppelman (S & K) formed as a residential builder and developer, co-founded by Paul Steiner.
1970s - S & K begins developing and acquiring commercial real estate.
1983 - Steiner Development, Inc. (SDI) is founded by Tom Kordonowy, and partners, to separate commercial real estate activities from S & K’s residential real estate construction and development business.
1999 - SDI is purchased by David Kordonowy and partners.
2006 - Summerhill Commercial Real Estate, LLC is founded by Peter Kordonowy.
2018 - SDI is purchased by Peter Kordonowy on January 2, 2018, and merged with Summerhill.
About Our Name
Peter Kordonowy’s grandfather, Paul Steiner, married Sheila Steiner (nee Older) from England in 1946, and the company name of Summerhill originates with Peter’s eponymous maternal great (x8) grandmother Olive Summerhill, born January 20, 1716/1717 in Gloucester, England.
